Why I Do This

The first time I walked into an oil press workshop, what stayed with me was not the scent of oil but the sound of the striking ram — and the man wielding it. He appears on no official registry.

My Role

Documenter. I conduct the interviews, take the photographs, transcribe and organize the material; the judgments and analyses are mine, and so are the mistakes.

Fieldwork Timeline

• 2025.10 First village visits; three projects confirmed;
• 2025.11 Photography at the decorative brick kiln and in vernacular houses;
• 2026.01 First formal interview at the Xuan brush workshop;
• 2026.03 Photography and audio recording at the wooden-press oil workshop;
• 2026.04–06 Interviews with government officials and experts;
• A return visit every six months.
