Origin
From Xuan Brush, Huazhuan brick and wooden-press oil to houses and prints.
How This Project Began
This project grew out of questions about three pairs of craft traditions — Xuan brushes, decorative bricks, and wooden-press oil — and slowly expanded to include vernacular architecture and printmaking.
Crafts live in space: brushes in the water-trough workshop, bricks between kiln fire and gateway towers, oil in the press troughs of old houses. From this came Field Archive of heritage architecture and space.
Crafts also live in labour. Asking "who does the work, and who gets seen" gave rise to Labour & Transmission.
What could not be carried back from the field was entrusted to printmaking. From this came Artistic Response.
