First Formal Interview with a Xuan Brush Worker
Today I conducted the first formal interview, in the brush factory warehouse. For the first twenty minutes he kept saying that "everything is fine" — until I switched off the main light and left only the workbench lamp on. Then he suddenly began to talk about how the water-basin work damages the eyes, and why apprentices never stay.
Lesson learned: for interviews, the environment matters more than the outline.
